The SmartSpace website will shut down for approximately 2 hours on Sunday, June 13, 2010. The purpose of the temporary shutdown is to significantly upgrade the webserver.

Downtime: Midnight - 2.00am Sunday 13th June 2010
By our statistics, this is the time the least number of vistors are likely to visit SmartSpace websites.
Because we have quite a few tasks to perform, access to the backend of the website will not be available for 2 hours leading up to the shutdown, although ordinary website visitors will not notice any difference. Other details include:
Up until now, SmartSpace has been operating on its development server, sufficient for the small number of websites on the sytstem at the moment, but not suitable for a larger number which we anticipate once promotion for the website platform starts in earnest.
Unfortunately, we were unable to seamlessly upgrade our server to a more powerful version with our current service provider, which has created the need for a short shutdown.
We have spent quite some time investigating the best option for our progression to our own dedicated server environment. Mindful of possible future expansion, we have selected a server which can be upgrader easily and with very little disruption into the future. It provides us with flexibility in future server configuration depending on the number of websites and traffic they generate.
In addition, the new server will enable us to provide more services through the SmartSpace website system in the future.
Preliminary Testing has indicated processes speeds could be up to 10 times faster on the new server in comparison with the current server. Although this will not convert into noticably faster download (the site is already optimised for downloads), during peak visitor times, the system will maintain its speed under a far greater visitor load.
